Cause of service: Fishing vessel capsized and sank.

Lifeboat launched at 1304 to the aid of Breton fishing vessel Bugaled Breizh, seen to capsize by sister ship 49 42 12 degrees North, 005 10 49 degrees West. Falmouth Coastguard reported at 1335 that there was no one in the life-rafts and that a rescue helicopter had picked up two bodies from the sea. Lifeboat asked to go to scene and mount search. The area was searched until 1715, but no survivors were found. Lifeboat returned to station at 1816. The lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service again at 1835.

Cause of service: disabled fishing vessel

Lifeboat launched at 1026 to go to aid of fishing vessel Heart of Oak with steering failure seven miles north east of The Lizard. On scene at 1053. After advising skipper, passed tow aboard and returned vessel to her mooring on the Helford River at 1220. Arrived back at station at 1332. Lifeboat refuelled and ready for service at 1405.

Cause of service: overdue fishing boat.

Lifeboat launched at 0407 for overdue fishing vessel Sabre and asked to begin search at 49 50 degrees North, 005 09 degrees West. Search began at 0457, and by 0707 hours, coastguard asked for new box search. At 0745, life-raft was spotted at 49 56 N, 005 11 degrees West by vessel Fast Will passing The Lizard. Rescue helicopter recovered two people from raft, with one still missing. New search pattern begun from 49 44 N, 005 12W. At 1130, helicopter found fish boxes, and lifeboat went to the spot to continue search, finding some rope. Search finally called off at 1256 and lifeboat returned to station at 1341. Lifeboat refuelled and ready for service at 1415.

Cause of Service: Electrical failure in fishing vessel

Lifeboat launched at 1205 to go to the aid of fishing vessel Harvester with three people on board five miles south of The Lizard. On scene at 1233, passed tow to vessel and towed to Falmouth. Arrived Falmouth at 1540, and moored alongside Flushing Quay when sufficient water at 1615. Lifeboat returned to station at 1750. Lifeboat refuelled and ready for service at 1820.

Cause of service: engine failure in yacht

Lifeboat launched at 0904 to go to aid of nine-metre yacht Rhondo one mile south of The Lizard with engine failure. Arrived at scene at 0921, when yacht crew were hoisting sails and preparing to get under way for Falmouth. They said they were happy to continue on their own. Lifeboat returned to station at 0948 and was refuelled and ready for service at 1022.

Cause of service: ketch taking in water

Lifeboat launched at 1333 to go to aid of 48ft ketch Loskadenn four miles west of Lizard Point with three people on board and taking in water. Rescue helicopter also scrambled to the scene. After speaking to the skipper and confirming situation was stabilised it was agreed that the ketch should follow the lifeboat into Mullion, which was in the lee of the weather. Helicopter released. On arriving at Mullion, the lifeboat’s portable pump was used to empty ketch’s engine room and it was decided to tow the boat to Newlyn. But with a freshening wind to SSE gale and difficult conditions at Newlyn, the ketch went under its own power to Newlyn with the lifeboat in attendance and two lifeboat crew members on board the ketch. Lifeboat left Newlyn at 1705 to return to station at 1823.  Lifeboat refuelled and ready for service at 1905.
